Preheat the waffle iron. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (lumps are fine).
Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into the batter.
Tip: Whipping the egg whites separately is the secret to light, airy waffles. Don't overmix when folding.
