Instructions
Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain, toss lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking, and lay flat on a sheet pan.
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef and sausage, breaking it up, for 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Add the onion and cook 4 minutes. Add garlic, tomato paste, and oregano, cook 1 minute. Pour in crushed tomatoes and salt. Simmer for 20 minutes.
In a bowl, mix the ricotta, egg, and basil until smooth.
Preheat oven to 375F. In a 9x13 baking dish, spread 1/2 cup of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer: 3 noodles, 1/3 of ricotta mixture, 1/3 of remaining meat sauce, 1/4 of the mozzarella. Repeat layers twice more. Top with remaining noodles and mozzarella, and sprinkle with Parmesan.
Tip: Make sure each layer goes edge to edge. Gaps create dry spots.
Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before cutting. This is critical. It allows the layers to set so the slices hold together.
