What size Instant Pot do I need?
A 6-quart Instant Pot is the most versatile size and handles all our recipes. It comfortably feeds 2-4 people. The 8-quart is better for families of 5+ or batch cooking large quantities of soup or chili. We don't recommend the 3-quart mini for full meal plans — it's too small for most dinner recipes.
Is the Instant Pot safe? I'm nervous about pressure cooking.
Modern electric pressure cookers like the Instant Pot have 10+ safety mechanisms — the lid physically locks during pressure, steam releases automatically, and it shuts off if anything goes wrong. It's far safer than stovetop pressure cookers. Millions of people use them daily without issues. The scariest part is the initial steam release, and even that's optional if you use natural release.
How is this different from a slow cooker meal plan?
Speed and texture. A slow cooker meal takes 6-8 hours on low. The Instant Pot delivers similar results in 30-60 minutes under pressure. Slow cookers are better for truly hands-off all-day cooking. The Instant Pot wins when you forgot to prep in the morning or want dinner fast. Our plans use the Instant Pot's strengths — beans from dry, tough cuts made tender quickly, and one-pot grain dishes.
Can I convert slow cooker recipes to Instant Pot?
Generally yes — divide the slow cooker time by 4-6 for pressure cook time, and reduce liquid by about 25% since less evaporates. But our recipes are specifically written for pressure cooking, so cook times, liquid ratios, and layering are already optimized. Converting recipes yourself takes trial and error; our plans skip that learning curve.
